I wanted to approach this ‘about’ section the same way I’d approach a job interview.
For the most part, mine have all begun with a similar prelude: variations of a four-word question. It shows up early in the process, when the prospective employer seated in front of me leans forward in the squeaky, fake leather chair: “Tell me about yourself.”
That phrase – that terribly generic phrase – is the cue to rattle off my name, education levels, job history, and a succinct but targeted list of accomplishments and/or interests (as needed and/or relevant). Of course, the biggest consideration for an interviewee is not so much the answer to the question itself (since the details are likely memorized by heart), but who’s asking the question and what they really want to know.
In this particular instance – in our introductory moment – I don’t know who you are, nor am I fully confident in what you want to know, which is moderately unnerving.
This is a connundrum, because I don’t want to alienate anyone so early in the blog-reading process, but I also don’t want to set unsuitable expectations.
So, with all that said:
- This is a personal blog, not a professional one.
- This is a place that is intended to foster vulnerability, growth, and authenticity – not poised, polished perfection. My goals reside firmly in the former, and I have no experience in the latter.
- This is to be a place of conversation, and I’d love it if you joined in.Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
